See you in

the workshop

Simon’s workshop is more than just a workshop – it’s a unique expertise! After a hard day’s work as a slope manager at Saint Colomban des Villards, Simon puts on his ski boots to make magnificent turned wooden objects. His cabinet-making skills and sense of aesthetics mean that he produces decorative objects, souvenirs, tableware and grand interior decorations combining wood, resin and natural stones…

Woodturner

Woodturning is one of the few manual activities that calls on dexterity, imagination, the heart and chance. Thanks to the precision of both the hand and the eye, objects are created from pieces of wood carefully chosen by me.

At the heart of Les Sybelles, an emblematic ski area in the French Alps, lies a craftsman as discreet as he is essential: the woodturner. The woody fragrance emanating from his workshop is a testament to his craft, where traditional know-how meets passion. This ancient practice, which consists of carving wood by turning it, gives life to objects that are both beautiful and functional, works of art that carry within them the essence of the mountains.

Woodturning, a passionate profession

Simon, the woodturner at Les Sybelles, is a craftsman who works with devotion, using both traditional and innovative techniques to transform rough pieces of wood into refined pieces. Under his skilful hands, bowls, vases, dishes and even toys take shape, each piece reflecting the uniqueness of the material and the personality of its creator. His workshop, like an Alibaba cave, is a place of discovery where visitors can watch the craftsman at work, sharing moments of pure creation.
This craft, far from being a simple occupation, is a true vocation for Simon, who is the piste boss at Saint Colomban des Villards during the day. He chooses his wood carefully, favouring local species that he mixes with resin or stone. Each creation is the fruit of an in-depth knowledge of wood and an intimate understanding of how it behaves, acquired over years of experience and practice.
